Zella Mae Barnes Bishop Cubine, age 93, formerly of Springfield, KY passed away at 9:45 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the home of her son in Lebanon.
A native of Washington County, she was born on December 27, 1930 to the late Willie Prewitt and Sally Kate Best Barnes.
She was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, a 1948 graduate of Springfield High School and a 1950 graduate of Campbellsville College.
After college Zella Mae taught school one year at the Texas School then went to work at the former Cowden’s Manufacturing Company in Springfield where she was the office manager following the closure of Cowden’s she went to work at American Greetings where she retired in 1996. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf and watching Fox News.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Paul Gene Bishop on November 19, 1996, her second husband, Paul Raymond Cubine on March 25, 2022; two sons, Larry Davis Bishop on January 26, 1987 and Wilson Prewitt Bishop on August 9, 1998; a sister, Gracie Lou Thompson on December 17, 1993 and two brothers, Foster Lee Barnes on July 15, 2004 and John Willie “J.W.” Barnes on June 10, 1999.
Survivors include her son, Barney Bishop and his wife, Carol of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Rebecca Bishop of Danville and Maegan Coffman (Jerry) of Lancaster; two great grandchildren, Tyler Bishop and Kinley Hunt; two great great grandchildren, Elijah Kane and Brody Kane and her loving dog, Lacy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 9th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Russell, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. Aaron Sherrell.
Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Coffman, Billy Dye, Danny Carpenter, Joe Carpenter, Jim Siwula and Len Benedict.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Tuesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
