William Irvin “Bill” Colvin, age 72, formerly of Springfield, passed away at his home in White House, Tennessee on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
He was born on January 3, 1949 to the late Irvin Thomas and Mary Louise Mardis Colvin in Marion County, Kentucky.
Preceding him in death was his sister, Ruth M. Colvin on August 8, 2019.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nashville. He was a 1967 graduate of Washington County High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University, he received his master’s degree from Tennessee State University. While growing up Billy was active in 4-H and exhibited the champion Dairy Cow. He was a resource manager with the US Army Corps of Engineers having retired in December of 2012. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Duke of Puducah and he received the United States Army Commander Award for Civilian Service.
Survivors include his wife, Verona Martin Colvin; his daughter, Ashley E. Lerza (James) of Richmond; three stepsons, Jesse Carlton (Catherine) of Tooele, Utah, Kyle Carlton (Kara) of Ringgold, Georgia and Jake Carlton (Kelly) of Munford, TN and three grandchildren, Ezran Lerza, Lukas Carlton and Berklee Carlton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Aaron Sherrell, pastor of the Springfield Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be on Cemetery Hill.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Lerza, Jesse Carlton, Jake Carlton, Kyle Carlton, Dan Courtney and John Alan Mardis.
Visitation will be after 11:00 Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Because Bill spent so much of his time donating his services to various charities, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers you have the option of donating to Project Cure, Nashville Rescue Mission, First Baptist Church at the Inn or Samaritan’s Purse.
