Vernie (Scruggs) Royalty

Vernie Scruggs Royalty, age 98, of Willisburg, KY passed away at 2:40 a.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

A native of Washington County, she was born on July 5, 1923 to the late Everett Wakefield and Lillie Lee Riley Scruggs.

She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, a graduate of Willisburg High School, attended Campbellsville College and was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harvey Cephas Royalty on August 14, 1988; three brothers, William R. Scruggs on October 14, 1991, Edgar T. Scruggs on May 9, 1996 and Emmett Scruggs on February 28, 1927 and six sisters, Dorothy Devine on April 5, 1996, Alma C. Arnold on September 30, 1977, Gwendolyn Scruggs on August 9, 1949, Mary Elizabeth Perkins on April 12, 1977, Minnie Scruggs on October 20, 1997 and an infant sister on July 17, 1911.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Gabhart (Rudy) of Willisburg and Peggy Sammons (Tom) of Youngsville, LA and four grandchildren, Matthew Gabhart (Nicole), Kevin Gabhart (Danielle), Thomas Sammons (Abbey) and Lee Sammons (Jasmine) and four great grandchildren, Madeline Gabhart, Kelsey Gabhart, Karsyn Gabhart and Gabriel Sammons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 7th at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Lumbrix, the church pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Gabhart, Kevin Gabhart, Thomas Sammons, Lee Sammons, Bobby Scruggs and Jesse Arnold.

Visitation will be from 4-8 Monday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home and after 9:00 Tuesday morning at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 1403 Tatham Springs Road, Willisburg, KY
