Samuel Joseph “Sammy” Spalding, age 87, of McLain Road, Springfield, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family who loved him very much.
He was born in Marion County on July 24, 1933 to the late Joseph Earl and Gertrude Montgomery Spalding.
He was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church, a farmer and carpenter.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Marian Badgett, Mary Geraldine Edelen and Dorothy Mae Spalding and four brothers, James F., Joseph Earl, Charles F. and Harry Lee Spalding.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Geraldine Ryan Spalding; three daughters, Glenda (Troy) Mattingly and Dana Spalding of Lebanon and Kim (Dale) Miles of Raywick; three sons, Ricky (Karen) Spalding and Terry (Denise) Spalding of Springfield and Danny Ray Spalding of Lebanon; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one brother, Bobby Spalding of Lebanon and one sister, Faye (Fred) Browing of Lebanon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 9th at the St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Caldwell, Brian Spalding, Erik Spalding, Nick Spalding, Austin Spalding and Michael Green.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Monday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
