Robert Darrell Ray

Robert Darrell Ray, age 78, of Springfield, KY passed away a 9:27a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the home of his sister in Springfield.

A native of Lebanon, Kentucky he was born on January 8, 1947 to the late Robert Leo and Frances Cyril Spalding Ray.

He was a 1965 graduate of St. Charles High School and Morehead University and the University of Kentucky where he received degrees in English and Political Science.

During his working career Darrell was a radio broadcaster, a screen writer and worked for the newspaper in Crestwood. He also was a Paralympic wheelchair champion.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, DeWayne McRay on May 11, 2006.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Lou McRay of Springfield, Elaine Helm (John) of Lebanon and Dianne Buechlein (Wayne) of Paris, Illinois as well as nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Darrell’s wishes cremation was chosen and a private service will be held later. Inurnment of his cremains will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Lebanon.
