Rev. Tyrone Clenney Obituary

Rev. Tyrone Anthony “Ty” Clenney, age 87, of Barren River Lake, Scottsville, KY passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 in the home and care of, Tim and Laurie Clenney in White House, TN.

A native of Covington, Kentucky he was born on December 27, 1937 to the late Charles Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Baker Clenney.

He was a member of the Scottsville Baptist Church, a 1957 graduate of Holmes High School in Covington where he played football and sang in the choir. While attending Campbellsville College in 1959 he served as the Youth and Music Director at Greensburg Baptist Church. In 1960 he met his beloved wife, Scotty Lane Cocanougher of Springfield, KY at Campbellsville College Youth Council and on January 26, 1962 they were married at her home church, Beech Grove Baptist Church. And in 1962 he graduated from Campbellsville College. Their son, Tim was born in December of that year, followed by their son, Thomas in 1968.

Throughout the years, Ty and his wife served Southern Baptist Churches in Kentucky and Ohio. Starting with Lucas Baptist Church in Upton from 1961 until 1964; Sandy Hook Baptist Church from 1964 until 1968; Calvary Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, KY from 1968 until 1973; Immanuel Baptist Church in Danville, KY from 1973 until 1978; Rolling Hills First Baptist Church in Faifield, Ohio from 1978 until 1983; Youngers Creek Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY from 1983 until 1986 and Greensburg Baptist Church, in Greensburg, KY from 1986 until 1999. He also served as interim pastor at Green River, Gamaliel, Palestine in Taylor County, Stewarts Creek, Fountain Run and Indian Creek.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Scotty Lane Cocanougher Clenney on July 26, 2025.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Clenney (Laurie) of White House, TN and Thomas Clenney of Nashville, TN; his granddaughter, Kyra Sharp (Christian) of Elizabethtown; three great grandchildren, Logan, Kasey and Hunter Sharp and a brother, Chris Clenney of Covington.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 3rd at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Aaron Sherrell, officiating.

Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Springfield, KY.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Clenney, Thomas Clenney, Kyra Sharp, Christian Sharp, Shepherd Smith and Stewart Cocanougher.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, The Gideon’s International.

Visitation will be after 1:00 Wednesday, September 3rd at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
