Nancy Joyce Homan Barr Goatley, age 89, of Springfield, KY passed away at 12:51 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville after a brief illness.
A native of Washington County, she was born in the Mooresville Community on September 24, 1932 to the late Joseph Thomas and Julia Mae Carney Homan.
She was a graduate of Springfield High School. After graduation she went on to study elementary education at Georgetown College. Graduating with a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Rank 1 degrees in elementary education, she taught in Jefferson County, Washington County and Bardstown City Schools for over thirty-seven years. She was very proud of receiving her Rank 1 from Georgetown on the same day her son, Jack received his B.A. degree.
In addition to devoting much of her life to the education of young children, she was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, a proud member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, a former member of the Guiding Star Chapter # 450 Order of the Eastern Star, a Kentucky Colonel and served for several years on the board of Cemetery Hill. She also enjoyed music and traveling with friends and family, visiting all fifty states and several international countries. Nancy also thoroughly enjoyed studying the genealogy of her family.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Dr. Jack Lloyd Barr on December 14, 1969; her second husband, William Hubert “Billy” Goatley on July 4, 2000; her granddaughter, Julia Guinn Stubblefield on July 9, 1998; a brother, Frank Monroe Homan on September 13, 2018 and a step-daughter, Billie Bays Goatley Reynolds on March 2, 2017.
Survivors include her son, Jack L. Barr (Joy) of Versailles; her daughter, Nancy Janine Stubblefield of Louisville; two step-children, E. Gregory Goatley (Margaret) of Springfield and Mickie Hayes of Danville; two grandsons, John Caleb Barr (Whitney) and Joseph Michael Barr (Tiffany); four great grandchildren, Peyton Michael Barr, Harper Rose Barr, Harrison Caleb Barr and Dylan Thomas Barr; eight step grandchildren; a brother, Joseph William Homan of Springfield and four sisters, Sarah Ethel Keeling (John Edward) of Springfield, Mattie Greer of Bardstown, Margaret Jackson (Darrell) of LaGrange and Mary Tom Grider of Louisville and eleven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23rd at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Stevens, officiating.
Burial will be on Cemetery Hill.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Greer, Tommy Homan, Ray Greer, Jr., John Joe Keeling, Chris Brown and Jonathan Keeling.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the, Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati in memory of her granddaughter, Julia.
Visitation will be after 10:00 Saturday morning.
