Mayola Ellen (Kidwell) Shewmaker

Mayola Ellen Kidwell Shewmaker, age 84, formerly of Mackville, passed away at 9:25 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the home of her daughter in Georgetown.

A native of Washington County, she was born on February 5, 1938 to the late Gilbert Samuel “G.S.” and Martha Ellen Sale Kidwell.

She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church, a homemaker, a longtime clerk at the former C & D Grocery at Mackville and served as a caregiver for several family members throughout the years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Dennis Myers “Denny” Shewmaker on June 13, 1999 and two brothers, John Clifton “Jack” Kidwell on August 12, 2005 and Gilbert Donald Kidwell on January 6, 2011.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Shewmaker (Lisa) of Mackville; her daughter, Denise Spalding (Bob Mel) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Jennifer Durham (Patrick), Meagan Portwood (Shane), AbiGail Timm (Chance) and Nick Spalding (Rachael); eight great grandchildren, Thomas Hoppes, Lucas Durham, Sophie Portwood, Emma Portwood, Hallie B. Timm, Vivi Mae Timm, Nicholas Spalding and Caroline Spalding and a sister, Mary Mayes of Corydon, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 10th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Gifford, officiating.

Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Billie Ann Riley, Brenda Noel, Helen Turner, June Shewmaker and Brenda Russell.

Serving as casket bearers will be Nick Spalding, Thomas Hoppes, Patrick Durham, Chance Timm, Shane Portwood and Lucas Durham.

Visitation will be from 10:00 until 2:00 Tuesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
