Matilda Walker Obituary

Matilda Raybourne “Tillie” Walker, age 86, of Lebanon, passed away at 11:01 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home.

A native of Washington County, she was born on January 11, 1934 to the late Theo and Sara Thompson Walker. The family soon moved to Lebanon where she was raised.

She was a member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church, a 1952 graduate of Lebanon High School, attended Rhodes College in Memphis and was a 1955 graduate of Western Kentucky University.

Tillie spent her working career as a school teacher with the Jefferson County Public School System for thirty years. During that time she also served as a high school girls golf coach and started the first state girls’ golf tournament. Following its inception she served as a director of the tournament for seventeen years.

Tillie was an avid golfer, bridge player and enjoyed time with her friends and family.

Preceding her in death was a twin sister, Mary Tobitha Walker on January 11, 1934 and her brother-in-law, Darnell Waters on June 27, 2020.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Taylor Waters of Lebanon; three nieces, Beth Alexander (Mark) of Lexington, Beckie Burston (Mike) of Bakersfield, CA and Susan Mattingly (Bill) of Lebanon; three great nieces and three great nephews.

In keeping with her wishes cremation was chosen.

A service will be held at a later date.
