Kathleen Fresard Obituary

Kathleen Marie Fresard, of Willisburg Kentucky, died on October 18, 2024. She was 71 years of age.  She is survived by her wife of 34 years, Sue Massek, her brother Robert Fresard, her nieces Amanda, Lillian, and McElle, multiple grand nieces and nephews, her Massek family Pat Smith, and Mike and Mary Massek, and her cousin Patsy Abramson. She is predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Vicky Fresard, and her parents Joseph and Eileen Fresard.

Kathy was known for her reflective nature, her intentional choices, her determination, and her kindness and openness to others. She was born in Detroit Michigan and cherished the lakes and the frozen Northwoods winters of Michigan as much as she loved Kentucky. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI, on the shores of Lake St. Clair. In the early 70s she moved to Kentucky to attend graduate school in psychology at UK. After receiving her degree she worked in Lexington as a psychologist at the Rape Crisis Center and the Jefferson Center Pain Management Clinic.  She was the psychologist on the stroke unit at Cardinal Hill for many years. Kathy was a strong and wise advocate for each client she served.  After “retirement” she became a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and merged her love of horses with her devotion to providing mental health therapy.

Sue and Kathy met in 1990 and became the loves of each other’s lives. They moved to 7 acres of land and forest in Willisburg, Kentucky in 1994, where they could live their best lives. Kathy was passionate about horses, the land and the forest, her four-legged family (especially their dogs), her work as a therapist, the WoW community, and her dear friends and family. Kathy and Sue were surrounded every day by these loves. Kathy was guided by a profound spiritual nature. She embraced the wisdom of the Dominican Sisters at St. Catharine and engaged in many deeply moving conversations with them.

The world is a better place because of Kathy’s spirit and the intention with which she lived. If you wish to make a donation in honor of Kathy, please do so to Hooves of Hope in Lancaster. (hoovesofhopeky.org)

There will be a private ceremony to honor her life.
