Juanita Hodgen Obituary

Juanita Hourigan Hodgen, age 94, of Jimtown Road, Springfield, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025 at 1:42 p.m.  She was born to the late Samuel Tilden and Lucille Gamblin Hourigan on February 20, 1931.  She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and hosted Bereavement meals.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Thomas Hodgen on August 27, 2019; three daughters Margaret Bess Hodgen on July 27, 1966, Allyson Hodgen on July 27, 1988 and Sandra Hodgen Moore on September 5, 2018; a granddaughter, Melanie Wise on April 25, 2007; three great grandchildren, Madeline Sandra, David Curtis, II and Charlotte Ann Wise on April 25, 2007; her sisters; Nannie Margaret Payne, Thelma Spalding, Fayrene Conder, Wanelle Shircliff, Linda Hourigan, and Loretta Young Collett; her brothers, J. L., Dee, Jerry, George, Bobby, Larry, Eugene and Fred Hourigan.

On September 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert Thomas Hodgen.  They were married nearly 73 years.  Surviving is her son, Robert Thomas Hodgen, Jr. (Sherri); a son-in-law, William M. “Billy” Moore of Springfield; six grandchildren, Jennifer Martin (Kevin), Kim O’Daniel (Dennis), Missy Russell (Kris), Amelia Yaste (Jeremy), Robert Thomas Hodgen III (Sheena) and Mary Bess Agee (J. T.); twelve great grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Robson (Gerald), Loraine Morgan (Gary) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Springfield Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church with Pastor Aaron Sherrell officiating.  The Burial will be in the Ryder Cemetery in Lebanon, KY. With a message given by Bro. Kyle Yankey and a song by Amelia Yaste.

Pallbearers are Kevin Martin, Will Martin, Matthew Matin, Jeffrey Ray, Grant O’Daniel and Kristopher Russell

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Gideon’s International or to the Springfield Baptist Church “Better Days” Fund.  Donation envelopes for Bibles will be available.  Carey and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
