Joseph William “Joe Bill” Homan, age 95, of Springfield, KY passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at his home.
A native of Washington County, he was born on July 8, 1928 to the late Joseph Thomas and Julia Mae Carney Homan.
He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a 1946 graduate of Springfield High School and a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge # 50 F & AM. Joe Bill spent his lifetime as a cattle and tobacco farmer in the Mooresville Community on the farm he was raised. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, was a former director of the Washington County Farm Bureau, a longtime director of the Washington County Co-Op Tobacco Warehouse and a former director of the Washington County Soil Conservation District.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth Scott Homan on October 1, 2009; a brother, Frank Monroe Homan on September 13, 2018 and two sisters, Nancy Barr Goatley on October 20, 2021 and Mary Tom Grider on January 18, 2022.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Thomas “Tommy” Homan and his wife, Jennifer of Springfield; his granddaughter, Savannah Lee Homan and three sisters, Sarah Ethel Keeling (John Edward) of Springfield, Mattie Greer of Bardstown and Margaret Jackson of LaGrange.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 25th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Greer, officiating.
Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Saturday and 11:30 Sunday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
