Joann Hamm Ryan, age 92, of Springfield, KY passed away at 6:06 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her home.
A native of Owosso, Michigan, she was born on July 4, 1932 to the late Harold and Jean Fritzler Hamm.
Joann attended Baker College and Michigan State University and later married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Kenneth “Gene” Ryan on March 24, 1956. In 1972 they moved to Springfield and started the Valley Hill Nursery. She served as the bookkeeper for the business, a company that was well known throughout the country for growing fine trees. She enjoyed snow skiing in the winter and for many years played on tennis leagues as long as she was physically able. Joann was an avid gardener and an award winning floral arrangement designer. She received much gratification during her lifetime in helping those that were near to her and to some folks that were less fortunate. Joann was a longtime member of the Springfield BPW Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene on January 20, 1998.
Survivors include her four children Chris Ryan (Sandy) of Bardstown, Tami Glasscock (Jim) of Franklin, TN, Kim Fritz (Tim) of Springfield and Todd Ryan (Frances) of Lawrenceburg; a loving grandmother to her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret Meehle of Flushing, MI and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21st at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Wittekind, officiating.
Burial will be on Cemetery Hill in Springfield.
Visitation will be after 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home.
