Jerry Keith Byrd, age 75, peacefully closed his eyes in the presence of his family as the Lord carried him to the other bank of the river on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his home in Okeechobee, Florida.
He was born on March 30, 1948 in Washington County, KY to the late Hubert and Lena Lewis Byrd.
Jerry grew up in Willisburg, KY where he farmed with his father and brother. In the late 1990’s Jerry moved to Louisville to be closer to his work at General Electric where he was employed for thirty-five years having retired in 2001. Following retirement he moved to Florence, KY where he enjoyed life with his grandson. In 2010, Jerry moved to Okeechobee, Florida to spend the last chapter of his life enjoying the warm weather, playing cards and marbles and spending time with his many friends.
He was a member of The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and loved helping his family, friends and his community.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Billy Allen Byrd and a sister, Mildred Jean Curtsinger.
Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He leaves behind to treasure sweet memories his dear wife, Linda Hill Byrd; his daughter, Sherry Byrd Klopp (Dean) of Florence, KY; second daughter, Patty Curtsinger Elliott (Dave) of Florence, KY; his grandson, Isaac Hubert Kennedy (Emma Davis, girlfriend) of Lexington, KY; second grandson, Andrew Shawn Kennedy (Tammie) of Buford, Georgia; a brother, Dewayne “Buddy” Byrd of Willisburg and many nieces and nephews.
His Lord said unto him, well done good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Matthew 25:23
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bibi Frogue, Mary Ann Hale, Theresa Proctor, Peggy Humphrey, Elaine Lewis and June Pickerell.
Serving as casket bearers will be Derrick Chesser, Brian Curtsinger, Dean Klopp, Jr., Paul Mahedy, Larry Lewis and Scott Humphrey.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Thursday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
