James Donald Edelen, age 72, of Springfield, KY passed away Monday, November 10, 2025 at his home.
He was born in Lebanon, KY on November 1, 1953 to the late James Thomas and Charlena Quisenberry Edelen.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a retired horse trainer.
Preceding him in death was his step-father, John W. Elery; two brothers, Charles Hilary Edelen and Marshall Lee Edelen and a step-brother, Willie Elery.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Estes Edelen; six sisters, Shirley Brewer (William), Bonnie Anderson (Gene), Delores Turner (Robert Thompson), Cathy Spalding (Jeffrey) and Toni Churchill (Jimmy) all of Springfield and Mary Elizabeth Miller of Louisville; two step- brothers, Charles Elery of Greensburg, PA and Walter Lee Elery of Springfield and four step sisters, Mary Helen Railey (Richard), Betty Elery, Terry Elery and Margaret Trigg (Pat) all of Springfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 17th at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Pier Giorgio Dengler, O.P., officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Edelen, James Thomas Edelen, James “Jim Buck” Edelen, Jeffrey Spalding, Terry Young, Robert Thompson and Billy Wakefield.
Serving as casket bearers will be George Edelen, Dewayne Edelen, Aaron Edelen, Maurice Edelen, Lee Brewer, James Russell Turner and Mitchell Hughes.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Sunday evening at the Carey & Son Funeral Home and after 9:00 Monday morning at the Holy Rosary Church.
A prayer service will be held at 5:00 Sunday evening at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
