James Lewis Blakeman, age 86, of Frankfort, KY passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
A native of Frankfort, he was born on December 25, 1936 to the late Ed and Cornelia Rice Blakeman.
He was a graduate of Elkhorn High School and the University of Kentucky Business School. After a stint in the United States Army, Lewis worked with his father at The Market House on St. Clair. Following its closure to urban renewal, he owned and operated four Handy Markets, retiring in 2005 after forty-three years in business.
Lewis was a member of the Capital City Christian Church serving as a deacon and elder a number of times. He was a devoted husband and father who was always concerned with other persons needs before his own.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Brenda Sue Votaw Blakeman.
He is survived by two sons, Scott Blakeman of Frankfort and Brad Blakeman of Yorktown, VA and a grandson, Samuel Isaac Blakeman, and a brother David Blakeman (Eleanor) of Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24th at the Capital City Christian Church with Dr. Stephen Pattison and Bro. Jon Sutphin, officiating.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m., Wednesday until time of the service at the Capital City Christian Church.
