Imogene "Jean" (Conkel) Russell

Imogene “Jean” Conkel Russell, age 86, of Mackville, KY passed away at 11:10 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the home of her daughter in Mackville.

She was born in Pike County, Ohio on October 12, 1938 to the late Carl E. and Vivian Brewer Conkel.

She was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church, a longtime employee of White Castle Restaurant in Louisville, Minit Mart in Springfield, C & D Grocery in Mackville and a homemaker.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Sammie K. Russell on April 22, 2009; a granddaughter, Tara Russell Barnes; sister, Vivian Maxine Conkel and three brothers, Marvin Ellis Conkel, Carl Edwin Conkel and Paul Allen Conkel and her step-mother, Cora E. Conkel.

Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay Roution of Mackville and Pamela Johansen (Eric) of Louisville; two sons, William “Bill” Russell (Linda) of Louisville and Sammie K. Russell, Jr. (Phil Spicer) of Covington; seven grandchildren, Nathan Russell (Melissa), Jennifer Smith (Tony), Jamie Russell (Jessie), Stephanie Roution, Jeffrey Johansen, Kristin Roution (Earl) and Lauren Johansen; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Kay Blackwell of Idaho Hills, Idaho and one brother, Ronald Lee Conkel, Sr. (Cathy) of Minford, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 17th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Reynolds, officiating.

Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren, great grandchildren, Leland Turner and Lynden Turner.

Serving as casket bearers will be Eric Johansen, Jeffrey Johansen, Tony Smith, Lynn Davis, Kevin Davis, Nathan Russell, Earl Richardson, Jr., Jayden Stratton and Johnny Masterson.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 Monday and after 10:00 Tuesday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
