Herman Lee Akin, age 84, of Willisburg, KY passed away at 5:14 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his home.
He was born in Greensburg, KY on February 13, 1939 to the late Leslie “Pat” and Eliza Neagle Akin.
He was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran. Herman was a self-employed electrician, plumber, carpenter and general handyman for many years until retirement.
Preceding him in death included his parents; six brothers, Roy, Alton, Dalton, Gordon, Buford and Doyle Akin and three sisters, Sarah “Sadie” Newcomb, Norma Jean Vanmeter and Martha Jane Robinson.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Elizabeth Eldora Cheser Akin; a son, Danny Akin (Leasa) of Stanford; a daughter, Anita Foster (Jimmy Ray) of Springfield; six grandchildren, Jonda Hoffer, Jessie Harrison (Brandon), Lori Smith, Jonathan Foster, Caleb Foster and Emilee Foster; eight great grandchildren, Deana Hoffer, Riley Kelly, Shelby Cole, Quinn Harrison, Serenity Smith, Jacob Foster, Karter Foster and Luna Foster; a brother, Wallace Akin and a sister, Bernice Maedell Shirley. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Cooksey Cheser, Mildred Jane Cheser Cropper (David) and Linda Akin along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 22nd at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Mills, officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Akin, Riley Kelly, Jimmy Ray Foster, Anita Foster, Jonathan Foster and Caleb Foster.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Tuesday and after 8:00 Wednesday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
