George Lee Dawson, Jr., age 71 of Danville, KY passed away at 6:20 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
He was born in Lebanon, KY on November 1, 1954 to the late George Lee, Sr. and Kitty Shearrell Ray Dawson.
He was a member of Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church, a retired assistant manager of ATR Wire and Cable Company and a graduate of Washington County High School. He was also an avid hunter, gun enthusiast, fisherman and a fan of western movies, the University of Louisville Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Sickles and a half-sister, Ann Tonge.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Bright Dawson; two sons, Kellen Brooks Dawson and Erik Durand Dawson, both of Danville; a grandson, Jaxson Turney and a sister, Janet Smalley (John) of Grand Blanc, MI.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Pruyear officiating.
Burial will be on Cemetery Hill in Springfield.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Bright, Bradley Helm, Danny Ellery, Robert Johnson, Phillip Ray, George Ray, Charlie Lewis, Cecil Sickles, Tony Sickles. Devin Smalley, Sonny Key and William Young.
Serving as casket bearers will be Robert Thompson, Paul Spalding, Jaron Smalley, Eric Dion Smalley, Ryan Bright and Antwan Brown.
Visitation will be after 11:00 on Saturday morning.
