Gail (Russell) Blackwell

Gail Russell Blackwell, age 88, formerly of Mackville, KY passed away at 1:26 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

She was born in Washington County on September 3, 1937 to the late Sam and Sarah Carpenter Russell.

She was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church, a 1955 graduate of Mackville High School, a former secretary and bank teller of Liberty Bank in Louisville and a retired employee of Baptist Health Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Delmer Murl “Pete” Blackwell on July 1, 2008, two sisters, Norma Paige Russell on Nov. 20, 1940 and Frances Powell on June 19, 2015 and three brothers, Johnny Royce Russell on July 10, 1930, Henry Garland Russell on Feb. 21, 1996 and Sammie K. Russell, Sr. on April 22, 2009.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonia Gail Norris of Louisville; a grandson, Barrett Joseph Norris (Kristen); five great grandchildren, Samantha Ann Norris, Joscelin Blackwell Norris, Noelle Elise Norris, Lucas Brooks Norris and Landon Joseph Norris and a sister, Jane Russell Davis of Mackville.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Peter Cemetery in Mackville with Rev. Chip Pendleton, officiating.

Burial will be at Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Barrett Norris, Lynn Davis, Kevin Davis, Ric Davis, Logan Beck and Eric Johansen.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
