Evelyn (Graves) Smith

Mary Evelyn Graves Smith, age 87, of Springfield, KY passed away at 6:37 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2026 at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.

A native of Washington County, she was born on June 26, 1938 to the late Mann and Flora Mae Goode Graves.

She was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn was a hair dresser and a former employee of Kurl Korner and also operated a child daycare in her home for many years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jessie William (“J.W.”-Jake) Smith on September 2, 2005 and three sisters, Nettie Frances Calhoon on February 1, 2021, Golden Jewel Gillespie on September 16, 2022 and Anna Jane Smith Corbett on June 10, 2025.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Craig of Springfield; her granddaughter, Lilly Craig of Springfield; two brothers, William Graves (Norma) of Perryville and Bobby Lynn Graves of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 6th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Sheena Blake, officiating.

Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville. Serving as pallbearers will be Lilly Craig, David Gillespie, Steven Gillespie, Randy Smith, Ray Allen Graves, Mike Graves, Wally Bottoms, Sherrill Cornish and Charles F. Goatley.

Visitation will be after 10:00 Tuesday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
