Dolores “Dotty” Shewmaker Burns, age 93, Mackville, KY passed away at 11:53 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2022 at her home.
A native of Washington County, she was born on November 16, 1928 to the late Granville Clay and Thelma Marie Bishop Shewmaker.
She was a member of Mackville Baptist Church, a 1946 graduate of Mackville High School, a homemaker and retired as the cafeteria manager of Mackville Elementary School.
Dotty was very active in the Mackville community having spent her entire life there she was involved with the Mackville Community Development and was formerly involved with the Mackville Lions Club. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited forty-nine of the fifty states throughout their lifetime together. And most of all they thoroughly enjoyed playing bluegrass music at many festivals and nursing homes in the area. They made friends from many different states while playing music together.
Preceding her in death was her husband of seventy years, Mitchell Burns.
Survivors include her five children, Larry (Pat) Burns of Lexington, Martin (Mary Jane) Burns of Springfield, Alice (Emmitt) Gaines of Versailles, Bob (Ginger) Burns of Owensboro and Terry (Amy) Burns of Whitesburg; nine grandchildren, Melinda (James) Sears, Michael (Sharyl) Burns, Ashley (Lori) Burns, Megan (Aaron) Kegley, Heather (Todd) Wetzel, Jennifer (Chris) Hensley, Jane Burns, Katherine Burns and Anna Burns and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13th at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. James Harley, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. John McDaniel and Rev. Damian Phillips.
Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ashley Burns, Aaron Kegley, Michael Burns, James Sears, Chris Hensley and Todd Wetzel.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Wednesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home and after 9:00 Thursday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, The Mackville Baptist Church.
