Dorothy McIlvoy Cariel, age 94, Springfield, KY went to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Baptist Health in Lexington.
She was born Dorothy Helen Barr on May 11, 1927 in Washington County to the late Raymond and Ida Marksbury Barr.
She was a member of the Willisburg Christian Church and had an undying faith that was an example to us all. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing Company.
Dorothy spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an avid rook lover and would take anyone up in a competitive game of cards any chance she could. She had a passion for fishing and gardening, a deep fondness for her Kentucky Wildcats, and had a particular talent in the kitchen. If you knew Dorothy, you knew her for her infectious smile, witty sense of humor and her kindness to everyone. It would take an entire paper to write about the extraordinary life she lived, but it will forever be honored by the lives she touched in her time on Earth.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Joseph L. McIlvoy; her second husband, Ora D. Cariel; a son, Joseph Ronald McIlvoy; a daughter, Nancy Perkins and six brothers, David, William, Granville, Floyd, Arthur and Mike Barr.
She is survived by a son, Tommy McIlvoy (Brenda) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Lisa Perkins Raybourne of Springfield, Troy Perkins (Jill) of Yuma, Arizona and Shawn McIlvoy (Heather) of Springfield; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie McIlvoy and Brenda Carrico both of Springfield and two brothers, Donnie Barr of Springfield and Raymond Barr, Jr. (Bernice) of Manchester, Tennessee.
Although her family and friends will miss her immensely, they rejoice in knowing she is now reunited with her loved ones she has missed so tremendously, especially her beloved Ronnie and Nancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1st at the Willisburg Christian Church with Bro. Lance Ladd and Rev. Terry McIlvoy officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Perkins, Ethan Perkins, Timmy McIlvoy, Paul McIlvoy, Ralph Barr and Austin Barr.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Monday at the Willisburg Christian Church as well as from 8:00 until 11:00 before the funeral.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Camp Calvary.
