Donnie Bruce Barr, age 87, of Springfield, KY passed away at 2:15 a.m., Sunday, September 8, 2024 at his home after an illness.
A native of Washington County, he was born on August 16, 1937 to the late Raymond and Mary Lillie Yates Barr.
He was a member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a former sheriff of Washington County and a retired farmer.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Helen Lewis Barr on February 9, 2018; two grandsons, Brady Gabhart and Tristan Gabhart; three sisters, Dorothy McIlvoy Cariel, Nellie McIlvoy and Mary Rose Bohn and seven brothers, Joseph, David, William, Granville, Floyd, Arthur, Mike and Raymond Barr, Jr.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Barr and Carol Barr of Springfield, Theresa Gabhart (Randy) of Willisburg and Janice Mitchell (Harold) of Lawrenceburg; three sons, Donnie Lynn Barr, Austin Barr and Ralph Barr all of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and one sister, Brenda Carrico of Springfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 12th at the St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. David Farrell, officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Wednesday and after 8:00 Thursday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 Wednesday evening at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
