Donald Lee Weakley. age 82, of Springfield, KY passed away peacefully at 10:39 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at his home after a 22 year battle with Parkinson’s.
A native of Washington County, he was born on July 9, 1943 to the late Richard Cecil and Zelma Lee Harlow Weakley.
Donald attended grade school at the Maud School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1961. Following graduation he attended Tri-City Barber College in Louisville. During his 8th grade year he met his sweetheart, Mary Ann Padgett, getting her attention by throwing popcorn at her while riding the school bus. They married on the 9th day of June, 1963.
Donald began his 55 year working career as a barber with Bill Robertson’s Barber Shop in Springfield. After a while he and Bill Boone worked together before operating on his own as Weakley’s Barber Shop. He truly enjoyed cutting hair and even more the conservations he had with his customers. His clients would come from all over to get a hair- cut from a great barber and even better friend. Many remembered Donald by delivering the Sunday edition of The Courier-Journal for many years.
Donald was community minded and was a longtime member of the Springfield Lions Club, an avid fan of Washington County High School sports and a proud fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He was a man of deep faith serving many years as a deacon, RA leader, Sunday School director and most recently a member of the Temple Baptist Church. Donald served for several years as a Cub Scout leader. He cherished his friends especially those in his Parkinson’s support group. He loved his children and grandchildren always having time for them.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Alice Cornish and two brothers, Marvin Cecil Weakley and Chester Ray Weakley.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Padgett Weakley; a son, DeWayne Weakley of Springfield; a daughter, Angela Simmons (Paul) of Versailles; two grandchildren, Richard Weakley (Eleanor Ferguson) of Louisville and Meredith Call (Austin) of Danville; a brother, Clifton Weakley (Carolyn) of Mt. Washington; three sisters, Helen Holderman of Louisville, Wanda Jones (David) of Springfield and Emma Sue Bouquet (Steve) of Waxahachia, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jerry Cornish of Oberlin, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Soundra Weakley of Rineyville; several nieces, nephews and other family members and a special friend and committed caregiver, Cory Jones of Springfield.
