Cornelius Jones, age 89, of the Mooresville Community of Washington County, KY passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at his home.
A native of Washington County, he was born on June 23, 1934 to the late Edison and Sallie Mae Curtsinger Jones. Cornelius spent his entire life as a farmer in the Mooresville Community passing away on the farm where he was born.
Cornelius was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. A man of great Christian faith he was a lifelong member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and sexton of the church cemetery.
As his health declined, Cornelius wished to remain at his home on Midway Farm in the comfort of the house he built and where he raised his family. His beloved daughter and son fulfilled this final wish with love and devotion as his caregivers.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Mildred Shumate Jones on May 31, 1978 and his second wife, Rosamond Clark Jones on August 29, 2023.
Survivors include a son, William Jones (Leonna) of Springfield; a daughter, Sheila Knight (Harold) of Bardstown; three step-children, Robbie Jones (Walt) of Kettering, Ohio, Joseph Robinson (Victoria) of Sidney, Ohio and Debra Hardin (Terry) of Bardstown; three grandchildren, Valerie Goatley (Hunter), Kimberly Mattingly (Joe Lee) and Amanda Rountree (Josh); six great grandchildren, Jesse, Makayla, Will, Abby, Kate and Walt and three sisters, Margaret Hahn, Katherine Smith and Emily Wilson all of Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 31st at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Tobe Yankey, officiating.
Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Hunter Goatley, Joe Lee Mattingly, Josh Rountree, Will Mattingly, Charlie Edison Hahn and Taylor Smith.
Visitation will be after 10:00 Friday morning at the New Hope Baptist Church.
