Charles David Yocum, age 75, of Springfield, KY departed this life at 12:34 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
He was born in Washington County, KY on January 8, 1947 to the late Joseph David and Ida Leona Elery Yocum.
David, known as “Birdman” to many was educated in the Holy Rosary school system and attended Washington County High School. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a farmer. He loved to fish, hunt and anything outdoors. His children and grandchildren were his world.
Preceding him in death was his, father, Joseph David Yocum; his mother, Ida Leona Graves; his step-father who was very special to him, James Parker Graves; three brothers, John William Yocum, Joseph Key and John Frank Key; one sister, Mary Josephine Edelen; two grandchildren, Brian Monzale Edwards and Sedrick Steven Reardon.
He leaves to lovingly cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Janice Louise Thompson Yocum; three sons, James “Jamie” Edward Edelen (Tanya) of Baltimore, MD, Joseph Andrew Yocum (Sandy) and Deporres R. Thompson, both of Springfield; four daughters, Karen Lynette “Lyn” Edwards of Lebanon, Ella Roberta Yocum and Elizabeth Diane Churchill (Mike) of Springfield and Mary Denise Mitchell (Tony) of Savannah, GA; three brothers, Richard L. Yocum (Hattie) and William “Sonny” Key of Lebanon and Jerry “Ted” Key (Anita) of Bardstown; two sisters Elizabeth Pendleton (Roosevelt) of Cleveland, OH and Martha Joyce Spalding of Louisville; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 9th at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath and Rev. Roland Puryear, officiating.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Hahn, Tommy Ward, Billy Elery, George Hurrigan, Ronnie Gerton, Ray Thompson, Steven Stone and Danny Elery.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jamie Edelen, Andrew Yocum, Devin Yocum, Tyler Loving, Markus Yocum and Keion Wright.
Burial will be in the Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Tuesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
