Betty Jean Key Turner, age 87, of the Texas Community of Washington County, KY passed away peacefully at 12:25 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Washington County, she was born on August 1, 1937 to the late David (Dave) Lloyd and Dollie Smyser Key.
A faithful member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church her entire life, Betty was a loving mother of one daughter, Beverly Hays. She was well known as a sweet and gentle lady to many family and friends. Betty enjoyed cooking for her family, mowing the lawn and outdoor chores. She attended Mackville High School.
On March 16, 1954 she married James Norman “Normie” Turner at the Beech Grove Baptist Church parsonage in Perryville, KY.
Preceding her in death was her husband, James Norman Turner on December 16, 2016; two sisters, Mabel Louise Key and Anna Mae Coyle; three brothers, Lawrence, Oran and Dewey Marshall “Dude” Key and a half-brother, Robert Smyser.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Joe Hays of Perryville; nieces, Charlene Summers and Christine Carpenter and nephews, Terry Coyle, David Coyle and Keith Smyser.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Monday, May 5th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Estes, officiating.
Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Serving as casket bearers will be nephews, Terry Coyle, David Coyle, Jeremy Coyle, Bradley Coyle, Luke Coyle and niece, Brittany Barlow.
A special thanks to the Caretenders of Danville and Hospice of Danville.
Visitation will be after 10:00 Monday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
