Elizabeth Lee “Bess” Grigsby Haydon, age 82, of Old Lebanon Road, Springfield, KY passed away at 3:36 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her home.
A native of Washington County, she was born on February 25, 1940 to the late Henry Marshall “Pat” and Margaret Ballard Grigsby.
She was a member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, a graduate of the St. Catharine Academy and was the bookkeeper for the former Washington County Co-Op Tobacco Warehouse.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Thomas Simms Haydon, Jr. on March 7, 2007.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Coomer (Matt) of Lexington; five sons, Thomas Simms Haydon, III (Angela), Philip Marshall Haydon (Susan), John Curry Haydon (Rose) and George Lloyd Haydon (Kurt H. Krug) all of Springfield and Paul Ballard Haydon of Jackson Heights, New York; eleven grandchildren, Anne Thomas Browell (Matt), Tink Haydon (Heather), Marshall Haydon (Brittany), Sarah Haydon, Margaret Smith (Lance), Elizabeth Stallworth (Maze), Curry Haydon, Paul Haydon, Matthew Thomas Coomer, Sarah Ellen Coomer and Thomas Haydon “Tommy” Coomer; eleven great grandchildren, Landon Browell, Annalee Browell, Simms Haydon, Parker Haydon, Ellie Stallworth, Charlotte Stallworth, Henry Smith, John Parker Smith, Charlie Smith, Trip Haydon and Josie Haydon and three sisters, Margaret Eva O’Daniel (Joe) of Columbus, Ohio, Patricia Hamilton of Georgetown and Nancy Upton of Elizabethtown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18th at the St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. David Ferrell, officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be The Hernandez Family and Steve Key.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tink Haydon, Marshall Haydon, Curry Haydon, Paul Haydon, Matthew Coomer and Tommy Coomer.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, Marion County Animal Shelter, 1105 State Highway 208, Lebanon, KY 40033.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 Friday and from 8:00 until 9:30 Saturday morning at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
