Ann Waters Obituary

Ann Taylor Walker Waters, age 90, of Lebanon, KY formerly of Springfield, passed away at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Washington County, she was born on May 9, 1931 to the late Theo and Sara Thompson Walker.

She was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder and represented Presbyterian women on many regional committees and groups. She was a 1949 graduate of Lebanon High School, a graduate of Southwestern College (now Rhodes College) in Memphis, TN and a retired math teacher of Washington County High School.

Ann Taylor was an organizer of Washington County’s Junior Miss Program from its inception, serving once as chairman as well as many other capacities. She was a former president and member of the Springfield Woman’s Club and an organizer to open the Washington County Workshop for the Mentally Handicapped. She served several years as a Girl Scout Leader and was faithful to her bridge club, dinner club and her neighbors. 

Her love and support for the Springfield and Washington County community was unsurpassed as she supported and volunteered for many activities and promoted the history of the area.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Allen Darnell Waters on June 27, 2020 and two sisters, Mary Tobitha Walker on January 11, 1934 and Matilda Raybourne “Tillie” Walker on December 5, 2020.

Survivors include her three daughters, Beth Alexander (Mark) of Lexington, Beckie Burston (Mike) of Nicholasville and Susan Mattingly (Bill) of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Sara Alexander and Taylor Alexander of Lexington, Alex Mattingly (Britney) of Springfield, Ann Kelty Smith (Clayton), Lee Walker Mattingly and Kate Mattingly of Lebanon; two great grandchildren, Finley Hambrick-Alexander of Lexington and James Gabriel Smith of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Jean Waters of Springfield; a niece, Melanie Waters and a nephew, Vince Waters both of Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21st at the Springfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Clay Stevens, the church pastor, officiating.

Burial will be on Cemetery Hill.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Alexander, Bill Mattingly, Taylor Alexander, Alex Mattingly, Lee Mattingly and Clayton Smith.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, The Springfield Presbyterian Church or the Washington County Association for Mentally Handicapped Legacy Fund.

Visitation will be after 10:00 Saturday morning at the Springfield Presbyterian Church.
