Alexander “Alex” Thompson, age 88, of Jimtown Road, Springfield, KY passed away at 1:35 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Signature Healthcare at Colonial in Bardstown.
A native of Washington County, he was born on January 27, 1934 to the late Thomas and Betty Hardesty Thompson.
He was a member of the Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church and a retired farmer.
Preceding him in death were two sons, Terry Lynn Thompson on July 28, 2018 and Timothy Alexander Thompson on September 20, 2021 and a granddaughter, Evetta Rochelle Wright on April 5, 2015; five sisters, Mary Railey (Joe), Bernice Yocum (John Ike), Lula Bell Hodgens (James), Betty Jane Thompson and Alice Thompson; five brothers, Stanley (Ella Mae), Tom, Griffin (Laura), George and Johnnie (Catherine) Thompson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Lillian Groves Brown and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Boyce and Betty Jean Groves.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Groves Thompson; his children, Cecil Tichenor (Sara) of Lexington, Bobby Thompson (Wanda) of Perris, CA, Juanita Wright of Louisville, Regina Hickman (Jeffrey) of Bardstown, Betty Thompson of Bardstown, Daniel Thompson (Velma) of Richmond, Donald Thompson, Steve Thompson and Allan Thompson all of Springfield, Ann Melissa Ford (Ben) of Danville, Teresa Thompson and Tosha Thompson both of Springfield, Myrone Thompson of Lebanon, George Thompson and Anthony Thompson both of Springfield; thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Thompson of Springfield, Clementine Thompson of Lexington and Bertha Burrell (Dennis) of Indiana and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9th at the Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Roland Pruyear, pastor of the Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be his sons.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Thursday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home and after 9:00 Friday morning at the Springfield Baptist Church.
